About Thai massage 

What is Thai massage

Thai Massage is an ancient art form of therapeutic healing. Thai Massage is an extraordinary method of aligning the energies of the body. This art form is a combination of pressure point, energy work on the energy line or called sen line in Thai and stretching movement. Muscle compression, joint mobilization and acupressure are also used during treatment. 



 

 

 



Thai massage is different from other types of massage and body work. In order for practitioner to leverage their body weight for stretching and applying pressure the massage is perform on a mat on the floor directly over loose fitted cloth. There is no oil used in the session. Practitioner use palm press, thumb press, hand, forearm   sometimes elbow work on the energy line. Traditional massage in Thailand usually last for 2-3 hours. 

Nuad Paen Boran as is it called in Thailand, exactly translates as Ancient Massage Style. In the West it is known as Thai Massage, Traditional Thai Massage or Thai Yoga Massage. Some people called it "Lazy Man Yoga”, because it is like doing yoga with out any effort. The practitioner will assist you to stretch your body into various positions with out any work on your part. 

History of Thai Massage

Thai massage was practiced over 2500 years ago, founded by father doctor Jivaka Komarabhacca, also known as Shivago, who was personal physician of Buddha. He is known as “father of medicine” in Thailand. Thai tradition were pass down to generation by oral among common people, but the royal court kept information in textbook by writing on palm leaf in Pali and Sanskrit. A lot of medical texts were lost during Burmese invaded and destroyed Ayuttaya (old capital city of Siam) in 1767. In the 1830's King Rama III of Thailand denoted Wat Po as the country's repository of information for Thai Healing. The stone were carved the text and stretching position of Thai Massage and place along the wall of the temple. Since then Wat Po become major source information of Thai Healing and the first formal school of Thai Massage.
